Characteristics
Botswana agates are popular for their fine banding, distinctive structure, and rich colour palette. Their characteristic stripes, unique markings, and striking contrasts create fantastic patterns that are the pride of every collector. The most renowned varieties, and the ones most sought after by collectors and jewelers alike, are the grey stones with distinct white bands due to their unique contrast. Pink stones are also very popular, standing out with their beautiful pastel shades ranging from white, brown, and pink to violet.
This collection features an exclusive selection of stones with striking white bands that create contrast against the grey, brown, and reddish chalcedony. This collection also includes one piece of the rare agate with a red center.
Origin
Botswana agates formed 190–200 million years ago during volcanic activity. As lava cooled, gas bubbles created cavities, which were then filled with water rich in silica and other minerals. The gradual layering of these minerals created the characteristic banding of the agates. The final colors and patterns were influenced by the chemical composition, temperature, and pressure.
Occurrence
The main deposits of Botswana agates are found near the town of Bobonong, close to the border with Zimbabwe. Agates can be found in the original host rock, weathered loose on the surface, or in riverbeds.

Agate with Red Center
The agate with a red center is the rarest variant at the site. It owes its red colour to microscopic hematite inclusions scattered throughout the chalcedony mass.
